5 Free Ways to Share Your Story and Build Your Business

We need to take steps today to empower ourselves, our women-owned business and our women-supported communities. The recent Women’s March in NYC and Washington and activities on Long Island and in many other areas show how important it is for women to collectively raise their voices and create awareness around important societal issues. This reflects on all aspects of a woman’s daily life, including building her business and improving her community. As Alicia Keys said:

“We are mothers. We are caregivers. We are artists. We are activists. We are entrepreneurs, doctors, leaders of industry and technology. Our potential is unlimited. We rise.”

I know how hard it is for a woman developing her own business and brand. I am a woman and a business owner. I know your doubts and fears but I also know the importance of productive and meaningful communication, both for your business and your soul. I love all things health, whether we are talking about healthy living, building healthy communities, self-care, better relationships or simply taking advantage of every precious moment that we are given. We need and deserve a healthy way to move forward and support our specific communities and causes. However, what if you want to share your story and build awareness of your business or cause and have few real resources?

Take a look into these FREE ways to share what you want to say to others on Long Island and beyond.

Explore Local Print and Online Media Avenues

Natural Awakenings is a local magazine that is useful for health and wellness providers. You can pay and submit articles and ads. It’s what keeps them going. However, you can submit an article that may be published for free. I shared the story and services of Brian Aubin, a local provider of yoga for those with autism. He is a provider that also has Asperger’s, a high-functioning form of autism. We paid nothing for the free press and the item was picked up for publication in CT and FL. If you can write and develop an interesting angle, it is possible to get some notice in local publications. See the sample published here: https://naturalawakeningsli.com/yoga-improves-lives-autist…/
Take any of your published items and promote them on social media platforms and look to find journalists to begin forming relationships with for future endeavors. Those with an active LinkedIn profile can also share newsworthy events to interested parties. Remember: YOU can do this for FREE!

Beef Up Your Profile and Write on LinkedIn

Check out LinkedIn Pulse to share interesting insights to your professional community. Anyone can write there for free. Find interesting pictures to enhance your story, either original or from a source like Pixabay, where you can download images for free and not have to attribute, to enhance your story. Use the free services at Canva to tweak and add text to your pictures. Remember to always add a way to contact you and if you also have a business, your profile or website.

Showcase Your Expertise Online

Join Quora and become a forum expert. Medium and Buzzfeed Community are also places that you can share stories. Before considering any of the options, read what type of content seems popular and see if your content will be interesting to their audience. Take any published content and promote it to your groups.

Actively Listen

Look for your audience online and join groups to engage and find out more about what people that may be interested in what you offer are saying. Be helpful and connect with others. You never know what may happen when you put out a little good karma.
